Safe is to go with the B4 and they are also less costly but if the B6 line give better handling and not just worsened ride then I would consider those. The standard shocks are fine but I've had Bilstein … I ordered the B4 (designated for Sport Suspension) from Rock Auto for my 545i Sport a few months back and while the back B4 shocks were similar in height to the original Sachs, the front strut Bilsteins were nearly 3" taller than the original sach struts when placed side-by-side.
